Llama Inn

New York, US

Quirky Peruvian joint Llama Inn calls itself part-urban hacienda, part-charming corner barrio bar, so expect playful decor, friendly service and plenty of surprises. Peruvian-American chef Erik Ramirez (who trained in some of New York’s finest kitchens) mixes up culinary influences and textures, pushing Peruvian influences straight to the fore. Colour and creativity combine in dishes that hit all the flavour highs – crispy squid ceviche with yuca, ceviche carretillero, hake, squid and sweet potato; a quinoa salad with bacon, banana, cashews, blue cheese and candied sunflower seeds; and classic Peruvian dish lomo saltado (steak stir-fried with chips) comes with spring onion pancake and chili peppers. Unexpected combinations that work remarkably well carry through to dessert with a black sesame, soy caramel and chocolate confection. Beautiful food with attitude.
