Lilia
New York, US
Inside a renovated East Williamsburg car body shop, dough pro Missy Robbins helms the open kitchen at Lilia. All the pastas on her pan-regional Italian menu are handmade and many showcase inventive twists on classic combinations. Her signature mafaldini with pink peppercorns and Parmigiano has guests regularly returning, with other hits including sheep’s milk cheese agnolotti with saffron, honey and dried tomato, and an extra aromatic take on Roman-style cacio e pepe fritelle (sweet fried doughnuts with cheese and pepper). Whole fish and juicy steaks come off a massive wood-fired grill and the all-Italian wine list is concise and focused, as well as cocktails featuring classic Negronis and Milano Sours. Desserts get a hit of Italian sunshine with the likes of olive oil cake and chocolate torta with espresso zabaglione, and a tantalising range of gelatos and toppings. In warmer months, sidewalk seating allows for al fresco dining.
