The Grill

New York, US

Tucked inside a Midtown skyscraper designed by architects Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Philip Johnson, The Grill recreates the dazzling glamour of dining out in early 1960s Manhattan to an almost cinematic level of perfection. Which makes total sense when you consider this is the only landmarked dining rooms in the US. It was the era of Mad Men-style 'power lunches’, where advertising executives sank their teeth into slabs of prime rib carved tableside, and foreign dignitaries and Hollywood A-listers bumped elbows while sipping Dirty Martinis at the bar. Today, the vibe and the clientele are similar, if a little buzzier and more youthful, in this big city steakhouse that is neither for the frugal nor the feint of appetite. A good variety of fish and seafood dishes – Montauk pearl oysters, blue crab gumbo, Cajun snapper – will keep non-meat fans happy, too.
