The Mercer

New York, US

Located in a squat, red brick building, The Mercer pioneered boutique hotels in chic SoHo and, in fact, the entire City of New York. In 1890, the six story Romanesque structure was constructed for the Astor family; in 1997, hoteliers Andres Balzs, Ira Dukier, and Richard Born debuted 73 rooms and suites in the remodeled space. The Mercer’s goal remains to provide guests with a taste of the remodeled loft apartments common to the neighbourhood so expect architectural highlights like exposed brick walls, high ceilings, open floor plans and plenty of cream and chocolate tones. The SoHo vibe is also evident in the icon French designer Christian Liaigre’s earth toned lobby, a hotspot for models and creators. The dim, subterranean space houses one of downtown’s hottest restaurant: Sartiano’s. A collaboration between global restaurateur Scott Sartiano and New York culinary stalwart Alfred Portal, the restaurant serves up elevated Italian fare and a sexy scene. The chic hotel is a destination suis generis and the veteran staff will provide anything from in-room massages to packing services to house cars. But, don’t forget that the joy of The Mercer is also the surrounding SoHo scene where you can indulge in world class shopping and restaurants.
