The Surrey, A Corinthia Hotel

New York, US

The Corinthia Hotels brand didn’t hold back when it came to its Big Apple debut in 2024, breathing new life into The Surrey on the Upper East Side – a historic hotel which welcomed the likes of John F Kennedy and Bette Davis in its previous incarnations. The Art Deco building’s latest chapter has Swedish designer Martin Brudnizki at the helm, though his signature maximalism design has been toned down for this prestigious premises. Rooms and suites have a classical contemporary feel with subtle beige tones and organic textures, but Brudnizki sneaks in showstopping features including Murano glass chandeliers, marble bathrooms and colourful artworks. The top floor suites, named after bridges in Central Park, add a heightened sense of opulence, with sweeping views of the Upper East Side. If that’s not enough to tempt you, the hotel boasts the city’s only branch of celebrated restaurant and members’ club Casa Tua (reservations are highly coveted), plus a Sisley spa and roof garden for open-air yoga.
