Nari

San Francisco, US

At Nari, Pim Techamuanvivit sees the food of her motherland though the eyes of America. Her signature? Infusing heritage dishes with heritage Californian fruit rather than lacklustre incarnations of those prized Thai flavours that are altogether too common outside Thailand. See her lamb massaman curry with grilled nectarines, which is case in point. Underpinned by finesse and friendliness (which extends to the lovely airy dining room), her food is breathing new life into San Francisco’s fine-dining scene. It makes sense then, that the name Nari refers to the Thai women who have historically pushed Thailand’s foodways forward. And too, that an all-female staff lead proceedings here. They’re on hand to offer knowledgeable insight on the menu, or you could leave it in their hands entirely and opt for the Chef’s Pick. A drinks list curated from female producers rounds things off.
