Don’t be fooled by the exterior of 11 Woodfire. From the outside, it may appear in tune with its surroundings: an ultra-modern villa on a residential street in Dubai’s opulent Jumeirah district that bears all the hallmarks of a modish fine dining restaurant. However, a peek behind the curtain unveils a neo-industrial temple devoted to cooking over fire. Its interior, accented by wooden beams and exposed brick, is minimally decorated and highly functional. At the beating heart of the venue lies an open-plan kitchen, illuminated almost exclusively by the controlled inferno of wood-burning grills central to the kitchen’s operation. Cooking here is both rustic and refined, with almost every dish leaving the pass deftly kissed by fire. Its signature lamb chops, expertly grilled and topped with shavings of crispy fried garlic are seriously accomplished. Its wagyu burger, another must-order, is remarkably balanced, enhanced by delicate notes of pine and hickory wood smoke, and topped with layers of creamy gouda and spicy sriracha. Not in the mood for meat? Other vegetable dishes across the Botanic Kingdom section of menu, such as banana shallots on a bed of charred corn and oregano oil, are given just as much consideration as their counterparts for carnivores. Don’t miss out on its bespoke drinks trolley, sporting a range of teas and soft drinks (alongside harder options), expertly curated to work in tandem with its smoky plates.
