Come to Mimi Kakushi for the evening and feel as though you’ve been whisked back to 1920s Osaka. Combining jazz music, colonial era-inspired décor and oriental art deco, the restaurant, which feels like a vintage private members’ club, pays true homage to Japan’s Roaring Twenties. Chef Kim Vladimir dials up the avant-garde with spectacular sushi dishes. Think tempura, gyoza and kushi, each served with style and somewhat surprising flavours: prawn popcorn tempura, wagyu and foie gras, and caviar with sweet soy and lime. Watch out for the chef’s signature baked bone marrow with beef tartare, which is spread onto fried buns. The restaurant is part of the La Cantine du Faubourg group, which boasts an inimitable roster of Dubai-based restaurants, such as Ninive, Twiggy and Lana LUS, all managed under the eye of Executive Chef Gilles Bosquet.
