Somewhere

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Intentionally ambiguous by name, Somewhere aims to mirror Dubai’s melting pot of cultures through its cooking, merging globally-inspired dishes with Middle Eastern ingredients. Think miniature bao buns with grilled wagyu kebab skewers and cranberry sriracha, or a French omelette stuffed with cheese and cooked in Arabic za’atar spices. At the table, menus are printed on faux passports, and while breakfast verges on gimmicky (cotton candy on a brioche bun, anyone?) the lunch and dinner menu levels up with hot pots of shrimp sayadieh (a fish and rice dish), four types of hummus and a fatteh bar. In keeping with the travel theme, the design is inspired by an airport news kiosk with shelves lined with Assouline hardbacks and, while giant prints of tropical-looking coastlines and archipelagos mean that every table has a scenic backdrop, outside you can glimpse a real life, show-stopping view of Burj Khalifa.
