Employees Only

The legendary Employees Only has been a jewel in New York City’s cocktail crown for nearly two decades. Walk through a tarot card reader’s storefront and into a temple to the Golden Age of cocktails. A crowded Art Deco dinner club is populated by white-jacketed servers deftly whisking glimmering silver platters of Manhattans and Martinis through the air. Bar director Steve Schneider also offers modern classics such as the Mata Hari (brandy shaken with chai-infused vermouth and pomegranate juice) and Ready, Aim, Fire (mezcal, fresh lime juice and house-made honey-pineapple syrup with dashes of spicy bitters).

Rounding out the liquid delights is a staggering selection of vintage whiskies. The food is equally decadent. Truffled grilled cheese, oysters on the half shell, and bacon-wrapped lamb chops are standouts on an indulgent menu. But, if you’re planning on dinner, make a reservation. EO is always crowded – for good reason.
