It may have a tiny store front on a busy Palermo avenue, but don’t let looks deceive: Gran Dabbang is bursting with taste and creativity. A few Bollywood posters adorn the verdant palm-flanked walls to reference the Indian influences of chef Mariano Ramón, who teams flavours from across Asia with Latin American ingredients to create a vibrant new genre. Stir fried bamboo shoots dressed with sprigs of dill, rica-rica marinated quail and smoked lamb curry are highlights from a short menu of around 10 small plates, each served on no-fuss silver dishware and designed for sharing. There are no reservations so get there early. Though with dishes flying out the kitchen, the queue moves quickly.
