Reznicek
Vienna, Austria
The traditional Austrian inn is given a modern – yet still thoroughly homely and warm – update at Reznicek, located in the northern reaches of the capital city. The decor isn’t so much a radical departure as a gentle shift, with plenty of wood panelling, white-washing and nostalgic art pieces (example: the giant fish figure painted on one of the walls). Likewise, the menu hits on plenty of classics, such as crispy river trout, fish soup and a simply prepared turbot, or volcano ham, lamb knuckle and sweetbread for the meat-eaters. So, where’s the culinary modernism, you ask? Well, show us another Austrian inn serving aubergine tempura or lion’s mane mushrooms. For one of the first times in Austrian inn history, vegans have a chance at bagging a sublime meal.
