Operating from a beautifully restored colonial townhouse, Lasai (meaning ‘tranquil’ Euskera, the language of the Basque country) is a farm-to-table dining experience. It deals exclusively in products sourced locally from Rio de Janeiro state, as well as from the restaurants two gardens, one nearby along the coast in Itahnangá and the other further north in Vale das Videirasd. This 10-seater restaurant is equal parts intimate and educational: chefs explain every step of the dishes as they prepare them and are open to fielding questions. Expect the likes of palm heart ceviche, and chayote (a squash-like plant), cauliflower and smoke and orchard-harvested pickles. Take your digestif on the tucked-away terrace, with Christ the Redeemer watching over you.
