With white linen curtains and a smart turquoise façade, Nelita stands out among Rua Ferreira de Araújo’s many informal bars and bakeries. Chef Tássia Magalhães’ menus are equally elevated, but the atmosphere she creates alongside her all-female team is as warm and unfussy as a neighbourhood trattoria. Named after her mother and specialising in modern versions of Italian classics, Nelita is the sort of place you go to impress a date or with friends who really know their food. Served from Monday to Saturday, choose between a la carte and a 5 or 11-course tasting menu to taste regional dishes such as trout roe and acerola from Magalhães' mother's farm. The a la carte highlights include fresh pasta made daily and house made butter, while somellier Danyel Steinle's wine list is a lovingly curated spread of whites, oranges and rosés (many of which are Brazilian) chosen to complement the menu's delicate flavours.
