Picchi

São Paulo, Brazil

As is often the way in Italian households, Brazil-born Pier Paolo Picchi spent his childhood in the kitchen, watching his mother and grandmother cook recipes that had been passed down the family for generations. Indeed, his eponymous restaurant still draws on these culinary memories, albeit incorporating seasonal Brazilian ingredients and contemporary cooking techniques. A wood-panelled dining room with windows overlooking verdant planting and crisp white tablecloths set the tone for a memorable fine-dining experience. Choose from three types of tasting menu, all seasonally led. There's a four-course pasta-only offering; the six-course classic; or, for a sense of occasion, the Picchi which has no less than a dozen dishes. Alternatively, go a la carte. Antipasti include the exciting lamb tartare, oyster and green apple; and foie gras escalope with pear and port. Don't miss out on well-executed pasta dishes such as spaghetti with clams, pancetta and sea urchin. Staff hit the sweet spot between professionalism and friendliness.
