A small restaurant with a big heart, farm-to-table Burdock & Co aims to showcase the produce of Vancouver and British Columbia, whether it’s come from land, sea or grown on the vine. Owner Andrea Carlson is also behind the city’s Harvest grocery store and noodle soup café and locavore is likewise the name of the game on Burdock’s no-choice six-course menu of small plates, which can be padded out with extras. Few visitors leave without an order of buttermilk fried rabbit, though ingredients are usually more off-piste than that, whether the fuki gremolata with the short rib (a rare meat dish on the veg-forward menu) or the the corn and sherry custard in the Paris Brest. Candlelight suits the restaurant’s opening hours – it’s evening only apart from weekend brunch.
