La Mesa

Santiago, Chile

Bright, beautiful and unpretentious, La Mesa is a restaurant steeped in sustainability, with its design centred around the preservation of an existing oak tree. Its dining room and two charming terraces make for a wonderful place to while away a few hours over inventive and expertly-cooked South American dishes. Chef Alvaro Romero trained in France but returned to his native Chile to launch La Mesa back in 2019, nurturing strong relationships with hand-picked local producers and honing a menu which is as skilful as it is straightforward. The main courses on offer are simply one risotto and one pasta alongside seasonal cuts of meat or fish, cooked simply and served with a complementary sauce, while the majority of the starters are served raw to let the ingredients sing – don't miss the ceviche.
