George V

Paris, France

The French capital’s Four Seasons is a palatial property just off the Champs-Elysées. Promising old-world opulence, with a glittering display of eccentric antiques, high-flying gastronomic delights and a decadent fourth floor spa, this is the City of Light's unchanged jewel: as dazzlingly spectacular, grand and gilded as it was upon opening in 1928. In keeping with its formal flounces and Art Deco flair, service is a cut above wit guests wanting for nothing. Fancy some late-night fare? The front desk will have whatever your heart desires sourced from the city. The hotel's 244 rooms borrow stylistic accents from Louis XV’s court, offering ample square footage (by Parisian standards) filled with lacquered desks, scroll-footed chairs, marble bathrooms and 'Made in France' mini-bar offerings. Most have terraces or balconies, and a highlight is the complimentary vintage stationery. This being Paris, the restaurants are celestial. Chandelier-hung Le Cinq is the most famous, plating modern iterations of French classics in a period drama-worthy dining room, but there’s also a Mediterranean-inspired menu at Le George and contemporary cuisine at L’Orangerie. All are serviced by a now-legendary old wine cellar that holds some 50,000 bottles, most of which survived being bombed during the Second World War.
