Loumi
Berlin, Germany
Foodies used to flock to self-taught chef Karl-Louis Kömmler and his partner Mical Rosenblat’s supper club in their apartment on Sonnenallee. When the couple outgrew the space, they took their monthly private dining concept to different locations across Berlin and Hamburg. Now you can experience it at their bricks-and-mortar restaurant in Kreuzberg. Small it may be and its decor simple, but Loumi’s set menu makes a mighty impression. The cooking draws on Nordic, French and Japanese flavours and techniques, with the chefs taking whatever ingredients are available seasonally and sustainably, and creating around them. Over the dozen or so courses, you might eat white asparagus with fig leaf and comté; quail with anchovy and stuffed morels; and wild strawberries with rhubarb. For an extra cost, add in sweetbreads and caviar or wagyu with sauce périgourdine. Book a seat at the centrepiece stainless steel counter to appreciate the culinary choreography of Kömmler and his team up close.
