Il Pagliaccio

Rome, Italy

Il Pagliacco is Rome's only establishment to hold two Michelin Stars, arguably a surprise in a city famed for its fabulous restaurants. This is something beyond the traditional osteria though, as within his dark and moody dining room – complete with navy walls and checkerboard floor – chef Anthony Genovese draws on his French homeland, his Calabrian heritage and his experience in Japanese, Malaysian and British kitchens to create a food concept and style of cooking that is wholly unique. Guests can explore this distinct cuisine via a four-course lunch menu, or via eight- or ten-course tasting menus and even a dedicated six-course vegetarian offering. Dishes include Chinese noodles, yellow tomato, broth and razor clams, or shrimp with agretti and coconut alongside a decadent surf and turf twist of lamb with caviar and sea urchins.
