7th Door

Seoul, South Korea

7th Door has a theme – one which it has entirely committed to. It's rooted in an other-worldly feel, accessed via a long, neon-lit corridor filled with doors, and entering the restaurant via the seventh. The corridor is also lined by jars filled with ferments, of ages varying from three to 10 years and representing 7th Door's ethos: there are five main tastes (doors to flavour), then fermentation and ageing make six, with the seventh produced by this very kitchen bringing them all together. Confusing? Less so once you see it (and taste it). It's stunningly executed to the point that saw the restaurant ranked No.26 in Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2021, with Kim Dae-Chun serving 10 inventive courses to just 14-diners per sitting, assembled around his chef's counter. Be aware that booking can be tricky if you're coming from outside Korea – it's recommended to book via your hotel concierge in this case.
