Babel Bay

Beirut, Lebanon

Open since 2012, a casual offshoot of Lebanon’s original Babel, which landed in 2009, Babel Bay is located in glitzy Zeitounay Bay, offering a sophisticated seafood-driven menu that pays homage to traditional Lebanese cuisine. The dining room’s design features a towering set-up of seven illuminated sandstone blocks and a depiction of Beirut’s skyline, while the terrace offers views of yachts bobbing on the Med. All the classic meze options are here, many given a modern, fishy twist: hindbeh has calamari added to the leafy greens; fattouch gets an upgrade with prawns; a savoury baklava sees the syrup swapped out for fish; and a sweet-salty fruit and seafood salad contains apples, orange, octopus and scallops. Locally caught fish is the star of the mains menu. The bar is well stocked with premium spirits and desserts are sublime, particularly the ashta (clotted cream) ice cream, and a Babel Bay spin on candy floss, made with cinnamon and apple.
