The charming restaurant Clap offers perhaps the most picturesque dining experience in Beirut. Found on the eighth floor of a building in Martyr’s Square, tables are set on the sultry rooftop terrace, allowing guests panoramic views of the city and the twinkling lights of the Beirut cityscape. It’s Nikkei cuisine as you’ve never seen before. The omakase-style menu offers spectacular dishes, some straight from the Josper oven, some created with the utmost precision by Chef Renald Epie. For starters, try the wagyu beef and foie gras gyoza with dashi parmesan cream, or the rock shrimp tempura with spicy chilli mayo, chives and yuzu dressing. Mains charred on the robata grill are the stars of the show. Expect the likes of beef tenderloin, salmon teriyaki and grilled baby chicken. Clap takes its drinks just as seriously. The entrance to the terrace is a large, glass-fronted walk-through wine cellar, showcasing the vintage champagnes, signature wines and house sake.
