Buco

Beirut, Lebanon

Burgers are ubiquitous the world over, so it’s hard for the humble patty to stand out from the crowd. At Buco, it is elevated to new heights thanks to owner Tarek Alameddine and his sisters Sami Khoueiry and Azzat Traboulsi. It certainly doesn’t look like your average fast-food joint, with its sleek curved bar and terracotta-hued decor. Nor does the menu read like one. Appetisers include lobster rolls, corn ribs with chilli butter and shrimp tacos, but it’s the burgers which are the main event. There are around half a dozen beef variations, ranging from the Australian grain-fed beef classic to the wagyu topped with provolone cheese and caramelised mushrooms, as well as chicken and vegan options. All come with homemade fries served in martini glasses. As ‘Buco’, is a hybrid of ‘burgers’ and ‘cocktails’, expect creative mixology. Having a guava margarita, thyme gimlet or mezcal espresso martini with your burger feels decadent, but oh so right.
