Based out of a charming historical mansion in bohemian Barranco, chef José del Castillo serves up delicious vats of nostalgia via Peruvian comfort food. Named after his mother, Isolina specialises in the generous traditional dishes (designed to be shared) that you'd once find in the taverns of yesteryear Lima – spaces that were renowned for eating, drinking and having a good time. For those with the stomach, Castillo's numerous offal dishes, such as beef brain tortilla or tripe and fried blood stew, are always authentic. In fact, there is a lot of meat on the menu, full stop. Book an upstairs table for buzzy ambience and photogenic decor. If you spend a little time in Lima, you may come across the Castillo family's La Red Cevicherías in the San Miguel and Miraflores district.
