This Lisbon speakeasy is full of surprises, not least its location in the city's oldest neighbourhood, Alfama. The first is finding the place. There’s not much signage and a password is required after a certain time. Once you do gain entry to this diminutive space – there are just 12 seats – you’ll find an unexpectedly comprehensive selection of bourbon, sharing space on the shelves with a range of vintage spirits and liqueurs. Ulysses founder Manuel Barreira can usually be found behind the bar, presiding over this spirituous library and creating bespoke cocktails for guests. Coffee is a speciality too, should you find yourself in need of a pick me up.
