Native’s commitment to local and regional products is apparent in its drinking vessels, aprons and wonderful ingredients, from fermented grasshoppers to laksa leaves. You may not recognise the bottles, but you’ll like what’s in your glass. Its compact menu contains no classics, rather it draws upon founder Vijay Mudaliar’s experiences from other renowned Singapore drinking dens such as Operation Dagger, with highly creative and zero-waste cocktails (the famous ‘Antz’ from its first menu to the ‘Arrack’ now). The cosy bar also houses a drinks lab where much of the experimentation and development happens. Only open for three years, Native was the Highest Climber on The World’s 50 Best Bars 2018 list, jumping 34 places.
