Eike by Bertus Basson

Stellenbosch, South Africa

An intimate space in an oak-beamed building with just 30 seats, Eike is a giant of Cape Town’s gourmet scene. Bertus Basson, who is at the helm of six other African restaurants, delves deep into his childhood memories in experimental set menus that celebrate local ingredients and culture. Classic bobotie (spiced minced meat baked with an egg-based topping) arrives in the style of a tartare, wildebeest parcels are presented on a giraffe’s shoulder bone and the signature dessert, ‘What Happened in the Garden of Eden’ is an apple compote and mousse contained in a candy-red chocolate shell.
