Miro Sikdang

Seoul, South Korea

This ultra-casual spot has become a big hit with Seoul’s foodie cognoscenti for the homely style of its Korean cooking and now attracts devotees who would never otherwise make the journey to the rather out-of-the-way area around Hongkik University. Chef Seungjae Park has mastered the art of the Korean classics – seafood and spring onion pancakes, grilled pork neck, and bulgogi, thin slices of marinated and grilled beef or pork – and elevated them using the freshest, seasonal ingredients. House specials include a spicy whelk salad with Spam and, most famously of all, the stir-fried rice cakes called tteokbokki. The atmosphere is part pub, part snack bar (beer is the thing to drink here) and the five tables are often occupied by off-duty chefs from Seoul’s top restaurants.
