Enigma

Barcelona, Spain

Pushing the envelope of experiential fine dining is Enigma, the 2017-opened culinary wonderland that's one of star Spanish chef Albert Adrià’s six Barcelona restaurants. Guests require a secret code (and large bank balance) to gain entry, after which they are welcomed into a futuristic set-up whose ceiling resembles an upside-down glacier and in which glass and polished marble combine to create a house-of-mirrors effect. Tasting menu-only – with the names and ingredients of the 40-50 courses not shared with diners until the end of the night – the meal-of-a-lifetime is served across a series of rooms, with meticulously crafted dishes taking their inspiration from various international cuisines. Japanese, Mediterranean and Peruvian flavours are all well represented, but the sky’s the limit as to what Adrià might choose to present on any given night: cold almond soup with bonito, earl grey ravioli, pistachio waffle, corn empanadilla – even those that sound simple shape-shift into something new and wondrous at Enigma.
