Madrid Edition

Madrid, Spain

Step into the lobby of the Edition brand’s Madrid branch and it’s something like entering a swanky, invitation-only drinking den hidden away in the heart of the Spanish capital. This seductive stay oozes effortless edginess, from its statement white marble staircase to the velvet-trimmed, dimly lit temptations of its oak-panelled Punch Room bar. A cross-continent team of designers dreamt up the hotel’s sophisticated look, which culminates in a sunset-ready rooftop pool – the largest in the city. The adjacent bar has become a lively evening outpost for city residents, with its terracotta-tile views and sharply crafted cocktails enticing all kinds up to the rafters. Surprisingly, the hotel’s dining avoids attempts to distill Spain’s complex cookbook into fine-dining degustation. Instead, chefs look to wider Hispanic culinary culture. Jerónimo is influenced by the flavours of Mexico, while the foliage-filled Oroya bar plates up Peruvian dishes and dangerously delightful pisco tipples. Rooms are strikingly minimalist in comparison to the lobby space: white and cream hues reign supreme against an almost monochromatic dark oak wood. Other amenities include an urban spa and well-equipped gym downstairs.
