Ett Hem

Stockholm, Sweden

Masquerading as three 20th-century, red-brick townhouses, this 25-room hotel in central Stockholm is no typical city stay. Owner Jeanette Mix rejected the minimalist call of the Scandi set's typical hospitality offering, instead scouring the length and breadth of Europe in search of artisan objets d’art and elegant antique furnishings to create her meticulously crafted hotel. It results in cover-star looks that meld the cosiness of the property's original features (note the old wood-burning stoves in some rooms) with a Farrow & Ball colour palette. It’s enticing and enveloping. Despite the work behind its looks, Ett Hem feels low-key. The rooms, a gym, library and sitting room lie comfortably within the property. Guests are frequently found lounging in the library or striking up conversations in the glasshouse. It’s a setting that invites congeniality, with dining and drinks similarly relaxed; guests have free run of the kitchen to forage for sustenance, as well as a brass bar in the living space. A simple menu is produced each day by the chef, offering homecooked Swedish flavours. Downstairs, the spa is more classically Swedish. The hotel’s yoga studio and fitness centre accompany a black-stone sauna space with ice shower.
