Nobuo

Taipei, Taiwan

Not to be confused with Nobu (note that all-important extra ‘o’), Nobuo marks chef patron Nobu Lee’s homecoming to Taipei, having polishing his kitchen skills all around the world, including Tokyo, Paris, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. Nobuo is his proud celebration of Taiwan’s seasonal and regional culinary diversity. Get a taste of this for yourself via the seven-course lunch menu or the 10-course chef’s omakase menu (available for lunch or dinner). The soft, milk-and-cream interiors and open kitchen take their inspiration from Scandinavia, while the façade looks to Japan, where chef Lee grew up. Similarly global in outlook, the menu merges Japanese and French elements with Taiwanese produce, to artful effect. Highlights include mushroom-and-tea soup, scallop mousse with scallop broth, crispy mackerel and a flawless filet mignon. Bonus points for the thoughtful wine pairings and refillable curry rice, which comes with a personal backstory to boot – a lovely touch.
