With its polished concrete tables, Scandi-leaning silhouettes and smart neutral palette, Elystan Street's interiors are elegant yet simple. This philosophy is reflected in South African-British chef Phil Howard's – formerly of Mayfair's The Square – thoughtfully composed a la carte menus. Quality British ingredients appear in classic flavour combinations such as Cumbrian beef with field mushrooms, lemon posset and Yorkshire rhubarb and chargrilled asparagus topped with ewe's curd. A globe-trotting wine list includes several very fine pours by the glass, as well as a sprinkling of bottlings hailing from Howard's birthplace in the southern hemisphere. Expect pure, classical cooking, big portions and warm hospitality from one of London's most accomplished chefs, and none of the pretence that you often find with this standard of cooking.
