Frevo

New York, US

Tucked away behind a contemporary art gallery near Washington Square Park, Frevo feels more like a secluded speakeasy than a fine dining restaurant - and that’s a big part of the appeal. Like an intimate performance space with only 16 seats surrounding the small open kitchen, every guest has a front row seat to the action. Complimentary glasses of Champagne kickstart the experience with a sparkle, and the connections between art, theatre, and food continue throughout the tasting menu experience, as Brazilian-born chef Franco Sampogna (who previously trained in France) finds show-stopping ways of presenting each refined dish. Menus rotate seasonally and the kitchen only buys what it needs for the night to ensure little waste. With no views of the outside world to distract, the elegant, warm den positively hums with a sense of exclusivity and magic once the dishes start to flow.
