  • No.38 North America's 50 Best Restaurants 2026

Much like its sister restaurant Carbone, it may be difficult to get a reservation at Torrisi, but once you're in, you'll be glad you persevered. It all starts with the setting: this exclusive eatery is tucked inside Nolita's beautifully restored Puck Building, meaning it's part old-school New York glamour, and part modern, innovative buzz. Picture green marble, velvet seating and mosaic flooring, with an open kitchen imbuing the space with theatrical energy. The food here isn't just Italian-American; it's Italian–New Yorkian, inspired by the city's classic red-sauce eateries, Jewish delis and West Indian patty shops, not to mention the flavours of Chinatown (take the talked-about cappellini Cantonese – thin-strand pasta served with lobster and an umami-rich garlic, ginger and soy infused sauce – as proof). Meanwhile, the wine list is extensive, with a heavy European focus: French pours dominate, though there's a considerable showing of Italian sips, too.
