Tartine Manufactory
San Francisco, US
A wood-fired brick oven sits at the heart of Tartine Manufactory, where co-owners Chad Robertson and Elisabeth Prueitt, plus their team, craft beautiful loaves and traditional pastries with a contemporary edge. If there's a queue at this inviting bakery and café, stick with it. Order a sprouted rye with seeds or a sourdough loaf to go, or start your day in the airy Scandinavian-style dining room accompanied by a salted buckwheat cookie or a bowl of house-made granola with a flat white. Coffee beans are roasted in-house. The seasonal brunch-lunch menu of soups, salads, sandwiches and tartines is popular, not least the open smoked salmon sandwich served with whipped cream cheese and pickled red onion. The dinner menu spins around pizzas, either red or white, made with fermented dough and innovative toppings such as Fig & Pig and Cacio e Pepe.
