If you want to find where the Black Sea meets Dubai, book a table at BordoMavi Seafood in Jumeirah. The jaunty, open-plan restaurant sits on the waterfront of the Fishing Harbour, with coastal murals and a towering display of seafood on ice immediately catching the eye. The owners of 3Fils have partnered with fishmonger Ersan Yilmaz, who first learnt about the bounties of the sea as a young boy in the docks of Trabzon. His mission is to bring the Turkish coastal traditions of his forefathers to life, giving cherished recipes a more current angle. The menu covers all bases including ‘Seasonal’, ‘Hot Comforts’ and ‘Cold & Fresh’ but nearly all, apart from a few salads and dips, feature sustainably caught, fresh-from-the-sea (often the Black Sea) fish. A feast of wagyu butter oysters, followed by charcoal-grilled catch of the day served with a lemon butter sauce, finished off by thyme ice cream drizzled with olive oil is best eaten on the terrace as the sun sets over the Persian Gulf. There’s no meat in sight.
