Like the Hollywood pin-ups (Loren, Hepburn) framed in black-and-white photographs on the walls, Il Ristorante – Niko Romito has star quality by the ice bucketload. The curved Portoro marble bar top is so glossy you can check your reflection in it and the polished, uncluttered design is synonymous with Milanese elegance. Chef Giacomo Amicucci’s refined menu is just as sharply executed, elevating classic Italian ingredients with finesse – a humble spaghetti with garlic and olive oil is upgraded with Bluefin bottarga and chocolate dessert is finished with gold leaf. Fresh pasta is handmade in-house and you can’t help but be transported to the Med by the sun-ripened tomato gazpacho and saffron-yellow risotto Milanese. Courses are carefully paced to give each flavour the airtime it deserves, accompanied by Sardinian wine served in bespoke glassware. At apéro hour on the terrace, order a Le Parisian – Leonardo Zanini’s signature gin cocktail with apple, cucumber, elderflower and pink Champagne.
