Mama'esh (Business Bay Branch)

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Mama’esh doesn’t mess about when it comes to bona fide flavours you’d find in a Palestinian kitchen, from fatayer (boat-shaped bread the length of your forearm) filled with melted nabulsi and akkawi cheese and topped with herbs, to slow-cooked aubergine and lentil rumanieh with mouthwatering pomegranate molasses or smoky lamb stew spiced with a whole green chilli. Virtually everything on the wholesome, earnest menu comes with homegrown Palestinian olive oil and large, airy discs of bread that you can dip into bowls of garlicky hummus or lamb kofta (so tender that a pinch of dough is more than sufficient cutlery). Portions are generous, prices are affordable and this original outpost exists in sync with its community, serving Ramadan Iftar to those that observe the fast. A few hours here provides a lovely experience at a neighbourhood staple.
