The Maine Land Brasserie

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Montreal-born restaurateur Joey Ghazal is regularly listed as one of the best dressed men in the Middle East in regional magazines and it is therefore little surprise that his latest opening, a stately French bistro in the Zaha Hadid-designed Me by Melia hotel in Business Bay, is impeccably turned out. Soaring double-height ceilings with exposed pipes are pleasingly contrasted with heavy crystal chandeliers, while diamond pane windows flood the room with light that offsets the teal paintwork to perfection, and a herringbone floor is scuffed just so. The clientele is equally refined. You won’t find Dubai’s infamous bling here. Instead, expect well-heeled, creative types sharing raw seafood platters and steaks with glossy bone marrow sauce accompanied by triple-cooked fries. A bar that runs the length of the room is manned by an expert team of mixologists.
