The Maine Land Brasserie
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Montreal-born restaurateur Joey Ghazal is regularly listed as one of the best dressed men in the Middle East in regional magazines, so it's little surprise that his brainchild – a stately French bistro inside the Zaha Hadid‑designed ME by Melia hotel in Business Bay – is impeccably turned out. Its success has since spawned several outposts around the world. Soaring double-height ceilings with exposed pipes are pleasingly contrasted with heavy crystal chandeliers, while diamond pane windows flood the room with light that offsets the teal paintwork to perfection, and a herringbone floor is scuffed just so. The clientele is equally refined. You won't find Dubai's infamous bling here. Instead, expect well-heeled, creative types sharing raw seafood platters and steaks with glossy bone marrow sauce accompanied by triple-cooked fries. A bar that runs the length of the room is manned by an expert team of mixologists.
