Kumquat Tree Speakeasy Bar

Hanoi, Vietnam

If you don’t know the passcode you’re not coming in. Them’s the rules at this pulsing bar found down a leafy laneway in an old shophouse, near Hanoi’s iconic opera house. A heavy red door leads you in, and while the concept screams speakeasy, the space screams party. Sprawling two tiers, including a dance space, it’s defined by raw brick, plush furnishings – with many reclaimed Vietnamese pieces – and plenty of neon. It makes sense when you know that Hanoi-born DJ Quoc Anh owns it. Expect an eclectic live underground music program and a 10-strong signature cocktail list – most served with paired snacks – that showcases all the originality and innovation Vietnam’s burgeoning bar scene deserves. Examples: What The Duck, a potent duck-fat washed scotch medley with vermouth and chocolate bitters with a duck mousse bánh mì alongside. Message the guys on Facebook if you want in.
