Dream team: Arami – meaning 'little sky' in Guaraní – was opened in November 2024 by chef Marsia Taha Mohamed and sociologist and sommelier Andrea Moscoso Weise. Taha Mohamed trained in Bolivia and Spain and worked in renowned restaurants in Europe before landing at Gustu in La Paz in 2013, where she spent ten years as head chef before moving into an executive chef role. In 2024, she was named Latin America's Best Female Chef as part of Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants 2024. Meanwhile, Moscoso Weise has specialised in identity, gastronomy and restaurant development. As a sommelier, she celebrates the unique heritage of Bolivian wine.

Making connections: The menu at Arami explores the connection between the Amazon River and the Andes, considering both how these landscapes and ecosystems intersect and the cultural exchange that takes place between these regions. The resulting dishes – such as a fig tart with sacha inchi (mountain peanut) and goat's cheese or a dish of coconut, tucupi (a sauce made from manioc root) and edible flowers – are thoughtful, creative, and almost too pretty to eat.

Set the scene: Located in the Achumani neighborhood of La Paz, Arami keeps things casual. Largely decorated in pale wood and grey, the décor is minimal, allowing those perfectly composed dishes to steal the show.

Doing good through food: Mohamed is more than a chef. She is also the co-founder and driving force behind Sabores Silvestres, a research and educational initiative that promotes the conservation of biodiversity, the preservation of food heritage and acts as a showcase for Bolivian gastronomic culture. By visiting and working with more than 50 Indigenous communities in the Bolivian Amazonia since 2018, the group helps Bolivian consumers and fellow chefs to delve, explore and integrate native ingredients into dishes.
