To celebrate the publication of our first e-cookbook Home Comforts: simple lockdown recipes from the world’s best chefs and bartenders, 50 Best is challenging you to get cooking for a chance to win two VIP red carpet tickets to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021 in Antwerp, Flanders. All you have to do is pick a dish that inspires you from the book and recreate it, giving it your own spin. The winning weekly dishes will be critiqued by an elite panel of 50 Best chefs to determine the overall winner. Here’s everything you need to know to get involved

Welcome to #50BestRateMyPlate – a social media challenge open to every Instagrammer who has donated money to receive a copy of Home Comforts: simple lockdown recipes from the world’s best chefs and bartenders. 50 Best is challenging cooks of all ability and experience to create dishes inspired by those in Home Comforts and post them on Instagram with the hashtag #50BestRateMyPlate. Whether you want to adapt the ingredients based on what you have in the fridge, re-imagine a chef’s plating or focus on a different element of the dish to be your centrepiece, it’s entirely up to you. We want you to get creative.

Every Monday from 20th July until 21st August, 50 Best will be picking its top plates from the previous week, which will then be ‘voted’ on by 50 Best’s 1.1m Instagram followers. The plate that receives the most likes will go through to the final and will be assessed by a panel of chefs from the Home Comforts eBook. On the elite judging committee are Vladimir Mukhin from White Rabbit, Moscow, which sits at No.13 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019 list; former Asia’s Best Female Chef Vicky Lau from Tate Dining Room in Hong Kong; Mitsuharu Tsumura from Maido, Lima, currently The Best Restaurant in Latin America; Elena Arzak from Arzak, San Sebastian, No.53 in The World's 50 Best Restaurants; and Kyle Connaughton from SingleThread in Healdsburg, California, which is No.71 in the current World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.

On 4th September, 50 Best will announce the #50BestRateMyPlate overall champion on Instagram and the lucky winner will receive two VIP red carpet tickets to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants ceremony in Antwerp, Flanders, in June 2021.

What do I have to do?
In short: get cooking! Once you have found a recipe that inspires you, recreate your version of the dish and photograph it. Then upload that photo to your Instagram feed as the first of two carousel images. The second image must be a screenshot of the email you received when you donated for the cookbook. In the caption, make sure you use the hashtag #50BestRateMyPlate, tag @TheWorlds50Best, specify whose dish you are using for inspiration and explain why you have chosen to recreate it in the style that you have.

What is the judging criteria?

50 Best and the chef panel will rank all entries based on three areas: plating and presentation; creativity in interpreting the recipe; and the reason behind your choice of dish. The best dishes for the week will then be put to the public vote. The dish with the most likes will be the weekly winner and go through the 50 Best Chefs judging round in August.

How will I know that I have won?
The weekly shortlisted entrants will be tagged in a post by 50 Best which will announce your win to its followers. The winner for that week will be contacted directly to explain the procedure for the voting for the Chefs Panel Final Round. Please bear in mind that if your profile is private, we won’t be able to see your masterpiece.
