Dead Poets

Hong Kong, China

By day, this striking bar on Aberdeen Street houses Sauce, a barbershop and coffee joint that encourages casual hang outs. Come nightfall, it segues into a sister venue to popular The Oldman, with drinks paying homage to deceased artists, wordsmiths and musicians such as Sid Vicious, Jim Morrison, John Lennon and Kurt Cobain. The Happy and Laughing, named for George Michael, contains hazelnut and cream distilled vodka, coffee, miso caramel and hazelnut liqueur. Dead Poet’s clinical aesthetic of polished chrome, bringing to mind an industrial kitchen, butcher’s shop or – some might say, a morgue – is punctuated by neon signage and atmospheric lighting. While you wouldn’t call it cosy, it’s just the place to come to sip on something creative and coolly contemplate your own morality, whether that’s with friends, a date, or simply on your own.
