New Punjab Club
Hong Kong, China
Describing itself as 'bringing swagger back to Punjabi cuisine', New Punjab Club was created as a nod to the exclusive, boisterous members' clubs of Punjab. Indeed, the premises feels a little 'clubby' – behind the dark green façade, red leather Chesterfield sofa-style banquettes are arranged around dark wooden tables; muted lighting, plush tableware and thought-provoking art promise good times ahead. It's an address where guests are invited to 'don their most sublime threads'. The menu is a celebration of the rich food heritage of the Punjab region, with a meat-centric menu centred on two tandoor ovens, which have been painstakingly restored. Chef Palash Mitra's tandoori venison, gobhi and cobia fish are served alongside delicious homemade accompaniments, including fresh-from-the-oven naan, raita and a selection of chutneys. The chicken tikka is more than worthy of a mention. Cocktails are inspired by the progressive 1950s and '60s, such as the Gentleman's Highball, with a focus on gin in the summer and whisky when the temperature plummets.
