Stern Ristorante
Paris, France
The Alajmo brothers, Raf and Max, bring old-school Italian elegance to the heart of Paris' fashionable 2nd Arrondissement. Located in the Passage des Panoramas, the oldest of the city's arcades, it originally opened as a letterpress in 1834. When Philippe Starck was chosen to design the restaurant interiors, he lent into the Baroque with carved woodwork, glittering chandeliers, a parquet floor and black and gilt accents in abundance. Work your way through the trattoria-style menu (antipasti, primi, secondi and dolci) from chef Alessandro Fornaro, who has been a trusted part of the Alajmo team for more than 10 years at renowned Italian restaurants Le Calandre and Ristorante Quadri. Seasonally changing classic dishes from Italy – spaghetti alla carbonara; dill tagliolini with lobster and squid; Venetian-style veal liver with fried yellow polenta; and homemade pistachio gelato – are revisited for the lunch and dinner services. Floor-to-ceiling wine chillers will make oenophiles feel like they've died and gone to heaven. More of a coffee drinker? The blend was created by the renowned roaster Gianni Frasi.
