Tokyo, Japan

Pronounced ‘teh-zeh’, this quirky bar on a Tokyo backstreet combines craft cocktails with books and curry dishes, resulting in one of the more intriguing libraries guests will have stepped foot into. Scattered on shelves, the bar and any available surface are almost 3000 books that customers haphazardly pick up and browse as they order from charming bar staff, who happily create drinks on the spot or draw from the canon of classics. Dimly lit and cosy with dark wooden panelling and retro leather couches, this is a stalwart of the Tokyo scene, serving up drinks for locals since the late 1990s.
