La Docena
Guadalajara, Mexico
- No.48 Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants 2023
If you're looking for a place to shuck the freshest oysters, try this convivial spot in one of Mexico City's buzziest neighbourhoods. Translating as "the dozen," La Docena specialises in bivalves, and chef Tomás Bermudez lets these salty morsels take the limelight. The bar and grill – blending famed elements of New Orleans and Buenos Aires – puts a new spin on classics: try the locally sourced grilled oysters with clarified butter, shallots and parsley, or go for the smoked oysters doused in Tabasco. A hip and relaxed space with industrial decor, it's the kind of place where you can grab a stool in front of the open kitchen, sip on a cold one and watch the team at work. Mexican vintages feature on the wine list, and the beer selection is equally considered. There are three further branches across Mexico City.
