The American Bar at The Stafford

One of London’s oldest American bars – that style of drinking establishment popular in 1920s and 1930s Paris and London – this venerable institution remains as compelling as it’s ever been, and even more so after a recent refurb. Consisting of a bar and separate lounge space, these are filled with signed photos of famous guests over the years. Design touches are classic, from the marble-topped bar and wood panelling to the abundance of brass and glass, and there’s a wonderful outdoor space too. As you’d expect, classic cocktails are a feature here, and it’s well worth a visit for these alone, but there’s also a selection of contemporary, inventive signature drinks, such as Solis, with cognac, coconut butter, vermouth, peach and fig. The American-inspired food menu is a highlight too.
